The CESCI in Madurai
This is our offer to you
The CESCI Centre offers you the opportunity to gain fascinating insights into India's culture and society and to meet interesting people involved with local social projects. We arrange travel programmes for groups (including groups of students) and individuals.
CESCI offers simple, clean rooms, delicious South Indian vegetarian food and is made very special, too, through its extremely committed and helpful staff.
Visitors will often have the opportunity to meet social activists from various organisations who are also staying in CESCI and who are always delighted to talk about their work. And by staying in CESCI guests make a financial contribution to various social projects in India.
The best times to visit southern India are November to March and July/August (the monsoon season is mid-September to mid-November).
CESCI (Centre for Socio-Cultural Interaction) is a meeting centre; its prime object is the advanced training of and relaxation for the social activists of Ekta Parishad, a movement which is dedicated to the ideas of Gandhi. But the exchange of ideas with western visitors is also part of the Centre’s philosophy.
CESCI is not a normal hotel, and it is therefore important to get to know certain basic conditions. Here you find further information about your stay at CESCI (see travel information: general information about the CESCI Centre).

The prices are regularly adjusted to take account of actual process in Indian and can therefore change.

If you are planning a longer trip to India and wish to visit other parts of the country before or after visiting CESCI, we can recommend both Insight Reisen GmbH (visit) and Women Travel (visit), both of which organisations offer exciting and perfectly organised individual and group trips to India. You also have the possibility of booking your stay in CESCI via these tour operators. The CESCI support group works with a prominent fair tourism and development organisation in-order to promote eco-friendly tourism (visit).
Interesting journeys in small groups with a professional Swiss guide, with an individually composed programme, are possible with a minimum of five participants. When arranging a group programme, the wishes of the participants will be taken into account as far as possible. The final programme must however be left to the CESCI management in Madurai for organisational reasons.
Orientation meetings for those interested take place before each journey.
A group travel programme can be composed from a choice of these projects and places of cultural interest (see travel information: social and cultural offers).
The programme will also include, if possible, a meeting with activists of the human rights movement Ekta Parishad.
Get in touch with us if you have a group of at least five people who are interested in making such a journey. We look forward to arranging a suitable programme for you!
Individual travellers are also very welcome in CESCI and have the chance of taking part in a programme. Here you find a selection of programmes and places of cultural interest which can be visited (see travel information; social and cultural offers).
Individual travellers are asked to get in touch in good time with CESCI with Biju K. (cescimadurai(at)gmail.com*) Please note that all communication takes place in English.
Our travel guides in Switzerland will also be pleased to give you information.
